World-renowned violinist and conductor Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, who became the Music Director of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano in 2024, has been named among the candidates for the title of “Milanese of the Year” by readers of Corriere della Sera.
Italy’s oldest and most influential newspaper praised “not only the conductor’s extraordinary talent but also his ability to bring more and more people closer to the magic of classical music,” emphasizing that under his leadership, the Milan orchestra has reached an entirely new level.
The popular Italian daily Il Giorno devoted a major article to concerts featuring the maestro. On December 29, 30, 31 and January 1, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony on the legendary stage of the Auditorium di Milano Fondazione Cariplo.
Emmanuel Tjeknavorian was born in Austria in 1995 into the family of Armenian musician and public figure Loris Tjeknavorian. Emmanuel first performed with an orchestra when he was only 7 years old and gained international recognition at the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in 2015. At the age of 28, in September 2024, he assumed the position of Music Director of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, and in October 2025 he successfully debuted in the United States, replacing Christoph Eschenbach as conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington.
