“There is no country in the world today, except Russia, that has an operational modular-format nuclear power plant. Simply none,” said Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan in response to a question from a journalist at the 5th Channel about how he assesses the government’s intention to install American modular nuclear power plants in Armenia.

“Yes, Armenia should have a nuclear power plant. There is ongoing talk about building a new one. I have been hearing this talk for at least the past 20 years. They speak of some kind of modular nuclear plants, but aside from Russia, there are simply no such operational plants in the world. When people say with a smart face that they are ‘exploring options,’ I can confidently say that such a thing does not exist today. All of this is just smoke and mirrors—an attempt to create an impression. As if they are thinking big, planning long-term projects, that Armenia’s future is bright, diversified, and so on. In reality, this is just empty talk,” Kocharyan said.
