On January 29, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution reiterating its call for the release of the military-political leadership of Artsakh and other Armenian prisoners illegally held in Baku. The Assembly also expressed concern over human rights breaches in Azerbaijan.

Alpha News talked about this with Aram Kevorkian, the EAFJD representative for press relations.

“This aggressive attitude towards Azerbaijan and a more positive attitude towards Armenia is a very good change. Our office and the Republic of Armenia must continue to insist resolutely on the democratic regression in Azerbaijan. We will also continue to raise the issue of prisoners held in Baku. For example, last week during the trial of Ruben Vardanyan, he was accused of charges that he had nothing to do with. We present this information to the European Parliament and the Assembly and insist that this entire trial is a sham,” Kevorkian noted.

Speaking about the extension of the mandate of the EU civilian mission in Armenia, he noted:
“We are positive about the extension of the mandate of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia, especially since a week ago, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement, photographed the observers, and showed an aggressive attitude. Azerbaijan is unhappy with the observers, and during their previous military operations, they always blamed Armenia. Aliyev’s threats continue, and in the event of any military action by Azerbaijan, the EU will have information through the observer mission. I do not think that a group of people who do not pose a military threat will have a negative impact on Armenia,” Aram Kevorkian concluded.
