The executive power of the European Union cannot endlessly ignore the opinion of the European Parliament, EAFJD Chairperson Gaspar Karapetian said, commenting on the adoption of the European Parliament resolution on the situation in Azerbaijan, violation of human rights and international law and relations with Armenia.

It should be noted that the European Parliament, at its plenary session on October 24, adopted the resolution on the situation in Azerbaijan, violation of human rights and international law and relations with Armenia with 453 votes “for”, 31 votes “against” and 89 abstentions.

“The European Parliament considers that Azerbaijan’s continued human rights violations are incompatible with hosting COP29. It calls on the EU and its member states to take possible steps to ensure that future UN climate change conferences are not held in countries with poor human rights figures. The Parliament also demanded an independent investigation into the war crimes committed against Artsakh, as well as the release of those arrested after the occupation of Artsakh,” he said.
