Extension of Archbishop’s arrest is lawlessness disguised as justice – Holy Etchmiadzin

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has issued a statement condemning the renewed extension of Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan’s arrest.

“On September 2, the detention of His Eminence Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan was once again extended in blatant violation of legal norms.

It is absolutely clear that the court, instead of upholding justice, has effectively joined the anti-clerical campaign initiated by the authorities, assuming a disgraceful role in persecuting clergy and those who support the Church.

This lawlessness, including the discriminatory approach, must end. We call for the immediate release of His Eminence Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan and others who have been arrested on false charges,” the statement reads.
