FIDE names Armenian men’s chess team ‘best team of the century’

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has named the Armenian men’s national chess team the best team of the century. The awards were handed over during a ceremony that took place at the FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest.

Former world champion Magnus Carlsen was recognized as the best chess player of the century. Judit Polgar became the best female chess player.

The Armenian men’s chess team, a three-time winner of the World Olympiad and a winner of the World and European team championships, was named the best team of the century. Armenian Chess Federation First Vice President Smbat Lputian received an award for promoting chess in the world.
