Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Pyotr Kolchin commented on Armenia’s latest refusal to participate in the Collective Security Treaty Organization exercises.

“The Pashinyan administration continues freezing Armenia’s participation in the CSTO. This direction of policy has already become symbolic for the Prime Minister, distracting public attention from certain geopolitical and social problems. Pashinyan is still trying to justify his geopolitical defeats by the actions or inactions of other actors, which, of course, has little to do with reality. For him, admitting foreign policy mistakes would be tantamount to political suicide. So, this policy as well as certain provocative actions against Russia continue,” Kolchin said.

According to the expert, Pashinyan’s provocative actions are the only tool to stay afloat.

“I would suggest that, in many ways, through loud statements and very demonstrative refusals, Pashinyan is trying to somehow draw attention to the problem of dialogue between Yerevan and Moscow and start a dialogue to bargain for some benefits for himself in the current circumstances. The problem of border demarcation has already left the information space to a large extent, and it is necessary to distract people from current problems. Therefore, such provocative diplomatic acts are becoming the only tool for Pashinyan’s administration to stay afloat,” Kolchin concluded.
