Legislative and technical work is being done to ensure the right of forcibly displaced persons from Artsakh to receive pensions and allowances, Narek Mkrtchyan, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, said at a briefing on Tuesday.

According to the minister, the forcibly displaced persons from Artsakh will be entitled to pensions and allowances in Armenia if they meet the requirements set by legislation.

“Regardless of whether they received a pension or an allowance in Artsakh or not, forcibly displaced Artsakh citizens will be entitled to a pension or an allowance in Armenia in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of the country,” Mkrtchyan said.

“Our compatriots will need to apply to the regional offices of the social service,” the minister said, adding that there are 49 centers of the Unified Social Service in Armenia.

Mkrtchyan also noted that if the forcibly displaced individuals reached retirement age before October 28, their pension would be paid starting on October 28.

“Registration at the address of residence in Armenia is mandatory for applying for a pension or an allowance. This means that our compatriots must be registered at the address of the place where they currently reside before contacting the regional centers of the Unified Social Service and submitting an application. Once the application is submitted, we will be able to process their data and ensure their right to receive a pension or allowance,” he said.
