France, after the failure of its policy in Africa, is trying to create an image of a peacemaker in Nagorno-Karabakh, although it was Russia that played a peacemaking role there, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

According to Zakharova, France’s increased activity in the Caucasus region is “a kind of compensation in the public and political consciousness” due to its failed policy in Africa. She said France’s “experiments” in the Caucasus include “so-called peacemaking efforts.”

“We understand that this has nothing to do with peacemaking. It was our country that undertook and fulfilled the entire peacemaking role, even in the context of the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue as a mediator,” she said.
