French FM calls for signing of Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement and release of detainees

French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot called for the conclusion of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement and the release of Armenian prisoners arbitrarily detained in Azerbaijan, Armenpress reports.

Speaking on the sidelines of a EU foreign ministerial meeting in Luxembourg, the French FM addressed the Armenian-Azerbaijani border tension, expressing hope that the EU monitoring mission in Armenia would contribute to suppressing the tension.

“Regarding Azerbaijan, I am extremely worried about the growing border tension. I hope that the European mission deployed on the ground can be strengthened to effectively monitor the situation and suppress that tension. The peace agreement must be finally signed, and those arbitrarily detained and imprisoned must be released,” Barrot said.
