Gabriel Sargissian advances to Round 5 of FIDE World Chess Cup

Armenian GM Gabriel Sargissian has successfully advanced to the fifth round of the 2025 FIDE World Chess Cup, taking place in Goa, India. In the fourth round, he defeated American chess player Awonder Liang with a score of 2.5:1.5, the Armenian Chess Federation reports.

The tournament began on November 1 and will continue until November 26, with rest days scheduled for November 10 and 20. The World Cup is held in a knockout format and consists of eight rounds. A total of 206 chess players from around 80 countries are competing, with a prize fund of $2 million.
