Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Aslan Rubayev commented on the opposition rally planned for October 28 in Georgia’s Tbilisi against the election results. According to the expert, protests in Georgia will not turn into Ukraine’s ‘Maidan’.

“Today’s Georgian protest, which is being organized by Georgian President Zurabishvili, cannot turn into ‘Maidan’. The West does not need another conflict zone in the Caucasus when the Ukrainian conflict is not resolved. The fact is that the entire collective West has long ago recognized that the Georgian Dream party, in principle, will win the election. This was due, firstly, to public polls that were conducted in Georgia, and secondly, to the fact that with the Georgian Dream in power, the economy grew fourfold. Georgia has become a stable and powerful state. So, I believe that in these conditions, with the uncertainty of the presidential election in the United States, as well as a number of internal problems, Americans do not see any point in interfering with Georgian affairs now. This can only bounce back. That is, today the West’s participation in the future Georgian ‘Maidan’ is minimal.

I believe the West is simply abandoning the Georgian opposition because they have neither the resources nor the ability to destabilize Georgia and this region. So, I think that everything will be calm and stable there, and the Georgian opposition will suffer a complete defeat today.

Georgia is actually ready to mobilize special forces, and in general there is very serious unity at the highest political level. The opposition has shown its lack of independence. Instead of joining the political struggle, they are giving up mandates. No one will follow such politicians,” Rubayev said.
