Germany summons Turkish ambassador over footballer’s Pan-Turkic fascist gesture

Germany summoned Turkey’s ambassador Ahmet Bashar Shen on Thursday over a Turkish football player’s ultra-nationalist “wolf salute” at a Euro 2024 match, Reuters reports.

The gesture is associated with pan-Turkic fascists, the Grey Wolves ultra-nationalist group.

“As Euro 2024 hosts, we want sport to unite,” the German Foreign Ministry said in a post on X announcing that Turkey’s ambassador had been summoned.
