Gevorg Bagratuni: Until the Armenian authorities want to do something, the European Union will do nothing
It seems that France and Azerbaijan are talking about some astronomical object, and Armenia is not involved, Gevorg Bagratuni, Head of the National United Armenia NGO, said in an interview with Alpha News.
“The MEPs are concerned about Armenia, but knowing the politics, we should understand that the European Union cannot take sides in the event of war and go with it. It should also cajole the other side with the help of some other MEPs, because you never know what could happen. At least, I understand this way: they are doing something to show the Armenians that they are not only pursuing the interests of Azerbaijan, but they are also on our side. However, I am not convinced that something will happen. During the war, when we had a demonstration in Brussels, we were doused with water. They could have done a lot at that time, but they didn’t. There was a time when they could have imposed sanctions against Azerbaijan, but they didn’t. And now, when Artsakh has already been depopulated, they have recalled that there is Armenia that needs help,” Bagratuni noted.
In his words, all this is just a political move to cajole Armenians, and France is now doing the same thing.
“It is true that France recognized the Genocide. It said that denying the Genocide is a crime, but then things calmed down, and that’s it. If we can make our desire stronger than the one of Azerbaijan, we will win. Everyone will say: Look at what Azerbaijan has done, shame on it and sanctions will be applied, but since only the Diaspora and a large group of Armenians are now dealing with these issues, we cannot tip the balance against the oil state. Until the Armenian authorities want to do something, the European Union will do nothing,” Bagratuni concluded.
