Speaking with Alpha News, Glendale City councilmember Ardy Kassakhian commented on the massive fires that have been raging in California for several days. According to the latest data, Los Angeles wildfires have killed at least eight people, CNN reports. At least five churches, a synagogue, seven schools, two libraries, boutiques, bars, restaurants, banks, and groceries were reportedly lost.

Robert Fenton, Jr., a regional administrator for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), said that more than 360,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders.

The fires have already been described as one of the most destructive in the history of Los Angeles County.

“The fire has not yet reached some areas of Glendale. In California, we must be prepared for such cases before the start of the rainy season. Each of us should have water in our homes and food for a few days. Fires are spreading due to strong winds. These winds caused great damage to the power supply,” Ardy Kassakhian said.

He noted that it would take a long time to repair the damage caused by fires.

“Glendale looks like after the war. Trees have been toppled, and power lines have been burned. It’s a terrible situation. We will try to restore everything in a short time. Such cases happen unexpectedly. The world cannot prepare for natural disasters,” he noted.

As reported earlier, Sahag-Mesrob Armenian School in Pasadena was completely burned down. A state of emergency has been declared in Los Angeles due to wildfires that have engulfed several neighborhoods west of the city.
