‘Gunfire at night’: shootings from Azerbaijani side heard in Syunik, Tavush, Gegharkunik

Amid four weeks of disinformation from Baku claiming that the Armenian side is allegedly firing toward Azerbaijani positions, alarming reports indicate gunfire from the Azerbaijani side, first heard in Armenian settlements near the Syunik border and now in the Tavush and Gegharkunik regions.
“In recent weeks, gunfire from the Azerbaijani side has been consistently heard. Tonight there were shots with short intensity. They were heard at 10:20 pm, followed by more at 3:00 am. It was automatic rifle fire—not targeted, just audible shots,” said Vahan Zakyan, head of the Khoznavar village administration, in an interview with Alpha News.
Similar incidents were reported last night in Movses village, Tavush region, where shots were heard from the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. Head of the village administration Armen Poladyan told Alpha News that the shooting was non-intensive, it happened three days ago. “These shots were not targeted, we only heard the sound, there is no damage in the village. The shots were fired at night from small-caliber weapons. I cannot say whether they were directed at Armenian positions or not,” Poladyan said.
David Shahnazaryan, head of the United Vardenis faction, also confirmed in an interview with Alpha News that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces fired toward the Gegharkunik region. “Residents of different settlements near Vardenis say that shooting is heard regularly. The shots are heard in the evening and night hours. No large-caliber weapons were used—only small arms. These sounds were heard from the direction of the villages of Sotk, Kut, Kutakan and Kokhakan. The shots were not directed towards the settlements,” Shahnazaryan said.
Since March 16, the Armenian Defense Ministry has consistently refuted Baku’s false claims that Armenian Armed Forces units are firing at Azerbaijani positions.
