‘Hayakve’ announces intention to raise pensions by at least 50%

The head of the ruling regime announced today that pensions would finally be increased starting April 1. The “Hayakve” union notes that its six months of consistent struggle for higher pensions has borne its first fruits, though only partially.
“An increase of 10,000 drams is far from the benchmark we set. It is clear that by cutting unnecessary government expenses, pensions could be raised significantly, thereby improving the lives of our elderly compatriots.
At the same time, it is obvious that this desperate step by the regime is nothing more than a pre-election ‘bribe’ offered to pensioners—the most socially vulnerable group—just two months before the elections, and its sole purpose is to ensure the regime’s continuation.
The ‘Hayakve’ union remains firmly committed to raising pensions by at least 50 percent and does not view this half-measure by the administration as a systemic solution. As before, we will continue to fight for improving the living standards of our half a million pensioners, as well as for removing this anti-national and deceitful regime from power,” the initiative said in a statement.
It should be noted that two months before the elections, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced in a video message that pensions would be raised starting April 1. Earlier, in the National Assembly, Pashinyan had declared that raising pensions was impossible. He argued that if pensions were increased, pensioners would not be able to use the money effectively.
