High tensions in Alaverdi municipality as Civil Contract launches illegal process backed by police

The situation in the municipality of Alaverdi is tense. Since early morning, police officers have gathered in front of the building of the community administration and are not allowing employees and members of opposition factions into the building.

“Who do you serve? We demand a fair vote, but you are acting on orders from above,” one of those present said, addressing the police.

At the meeting of the City Council, it was planned to discuss the distrust of the representative of the Country of Living Party Arkady Tamazyan. The Alaverdi City Council community, despite the tense situation, expressed distrust of Tamazyan. David Ghumashyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract faction, was elected head of the community.

Arkady Tamazyan stated that the meeting started off as a violation of the law, and he is going to challenge the process in court.
