Historical memory will always stay – Viktor Litovkin
Speaking with Alpha News, Russian military commentator Viktor Litovkin commented on Pashinyan’s recent meeting with Erdogan and suggested how the Mirzoyan-Bayramov talks might go.
“This is another attempt by Pashinyan to establish relations with Turkey, which have been strained for a long time, since the last century, as we know, and a more distant historical time, but there are too many contradictions between Turkey and Armenia for these relations to improve. We remember the football matches that were held between the countries and visits to one country or another, but no one will forget about Turkey’s help to Azerbaijan during the war in Karabakh and other things that happened between Armenia and Turkey in the historical period, so it is impossible to fix this matter with some meetings between Pashinyan and Erdogan. The border between Armenia and Turkey will always remain tense, and the historical memory of both the Armenian and Turkish people will always stay, so it will be very difficult to come to an agreement,” the expert said.
According to Litovkin, the meeting between foreign ministers will not take place at the level of mutual liking of the parties, and the United States is pursuing its own interests by organizing this meeting.
“I believe that the meeting between Pashinyan and Erdogan and its impact on tomorrow’s meeting with Blinken and the foreign minister of Azerbaijan are not accidental. Well, in Azerbaijan, as we know, it is not the Foreign Minister who decides, but the President of Azerbaijan. And there is no mutual liking between the President of Azerbaijan and Pashinyan; to put it mildly, therefore, formally, the United States wants to play the role of a peacemaker in the Caucasus, but not so to make peace as to push Russia out of the South Caucasus,” Litovkin stressed.
