Holy Lance to be brought out in Etchmiadzin
November 28 2024, 14:37
On the Feast of the Apostles St. Thaddeus and St. Bartholomew, the first evangelizers of Armenia, on November 30, the Holy Lance ‘Geghard’ will be brought out during the liturgy in the Cathedral of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
The holy relic will remain in the cathedral until 6:00 p.m.
According to legend, the Holy Lance, with which Jesus Christ was pierced, was brought to Armenia by Apostle Thaddeus, who preached Christianity in Armenia. Until the 18th century, the relic was kept in the temple of Geghard, which means “spear” in Armenian. It is believed that it possesses otherworldly force and gives authority. Currently, the Holy Lance is kept in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
