The authorities should not interfere in the affairs of the Church, but we also see that the Church has become involved in politics, ARF Bureau member Taron Ter-Khachaturyan told Alpha News.

“Many surprising events are happening in Armenia. The situation around the Church is developing rapidly,” he noted.

Ter-Khachaturyan linked the pressure on the Church with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Turkey.

“Having gone to Turkey, Pashinyan received instructions. And a year before the elections, he is trying to establish a dictatorship in Armenia. All this is not legal, but political persecution,” Ter-Khachaturyan said.

Commenting on Western media reports about Pashinyan’s statements, the politician said, “The authorities make shameful statements on social media. How much longer will they shame us? How much longer will they discredit us?”

According to him, Turkey and Azerbaijan are implementing their plans through Pashinyan and are striving for his re-election in 2026.

“Pashinyan will continue repressions by all means, including the use of police force,” he added.
