Hrant Dink’s assassin Ogün Samast released for ‘good behavior’
Turkish nationalist Ogün Samast, who killed Hrant Dink, the founder and editor-in-chief of the Armenian Agos newspaper published in Istanbul, on January 19, 2007, was released on parole for ‘good behavior,’ reports BBC Turkiye.
Samast was 17 at the time of the murder. He was arrested at the bus terminal of Samsun city on January 20, 2007, the day after the crime was committed.
Hrant Dink was an Armenian journalist, columnist, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Agos, one of the leaders of Armenians in Turkiye. He was assassinated on January 19, 2007 in Istanbul. After the murder, over one hundred thousand protesters marched in Turkiye, chanting, “We are all Hrant Dink”.
During the investigation, it turned out that the police and gendarmerie knew about the impending terrorist attack, but did not take measures to prevent it.
