Azerbaijan has taken no meaningful steps to ensure the right to return in safety and dignity for ethnic Armenians who fled Nagorno-Karabakh, Human Rights Watch (HRW) stated in a new report.
The organization also highlighted ongoing human rights issues within the country. The document addressed restrictions on freedom of speech and pressure on independent media. Special attention was given to court cases against opposition representatives and journalists, which, according to human rights defenders, were accompanied by violations of the principles of fair trial.
According to HRW’s findings, increased control over the media and difficulties faced by international organizations reduce transparency in the country’s processes.
