The Russian ambassador to Baku was invited to the Azerbaijani foreign ministry on Tuesday over “misunderstandings” caused by reports about Azerbaijan in Russian media, RIA Novosti reports.

“On 28 January 2025, Mikhail Yevdokimov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, it was noted that the reports based on disinformation and coverages targeting Azerbaijan in the Russian media and by some official circles of Russia cause misunderstanding, contradicting the letter and spirit of the Declaration on allied interaction between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation,” the press release notes.

According to the ministry, the results of the preliminary investigation into the tragic crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane are known, work is being carried out to finalize the investigation.

At the same time, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry did not specify what exact reports in the Russian media caused the misunderstanding.

Referring to the information in a local press about the “Russian House”, it was stated that this is not an official position. “The activities of such organizations on the territory of Azerbaijan are based on the principle of reciprocity and that it is important to conduct them in accordance with the requirements of the legislation,” the press release says.
