On April 2, the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Belgian House of Representatives held a hearing to discuss the draft resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh. Alpha News spoke with EAFJD President Kaspar Karampetian, who participated in the hearing.

“Belgium is one of those European countries that always supports the Armenian people. In its program, the new Belgian government emphasized its commitment to fostering strategic relations with Armenia while also addressing the right of the people of Artsakh to return. Our office has also always done everything possible to help our homeland and keep its name at a high level. However, there are issues with which I disagree, particularly regarding the statements and decisions of Armenia’s current prime minister.

The main issue I addressed at the Parliamentary Assembly was the Alma-Ata Declaration, which the Prime Minister cited to claim that Artsakh is part of Azerbaijan. In my speech, I was able to explain to the members of the Committee that the Constitutional Court of Armenia, as an independent court, is obliged to annul any agreement based on the Alma-Ata Declaration,” Karampetian said.

According to him, the Azerbaijani ambassador’s inappropriate behavior proved to everyone present that Azerbaijan is committing illegal actions.

“The Azerbaijani ambassador was also present at the parliamentary assembly, but he spoke sarcastically, lectured the attendees, and dictated the vocabulary they should use. Such conduct could not convince those present that Azerbaijan was right in its actions and statements. Even those present told the ambassador that his speech did not prove anything, but on the contrary, strengthened the opinion that Azerbaijan was committing illegal actions. The ambassador also publicly slandered me. And I threatened to sue him because he overstepped all boundaries,” Karampetian concluded.
