‘I view the current situation regarding the Church as very negative’ – citizen

The Church is the cornerstone of the Armenian nation; we unite around it. This is the opinion expressed by citizens when speaking about the persecutory attitude and attacks by the authorities toward the Church.

“Whatever a clergyman says or does is his opinion. Shouldn’t a person have their own opinion? Especially a clergyman? A clergyman is someone who lives both with the people’s pain and a spiritual life—his life is dual in nature. Should he not be allowed to express his thoughts? To judge someone for having an opinion seems abstract and unrealistic to me,” said one survey participant.

Another respondent noted that the Church is being led toward Turkification.

“I view the current situation regarding the Church as very negative—one could say it’s being led toward Turkification. Our Christianity should not be trampled like this, as the authorities are doing now,” he said.
