Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan responded to a question from Alpha News about why US President Donald Trump does not object when Ilham Aliyev uses the term “Zangezur corridor.”

“Why should President Trump react? Some say one thing, others say another. What do you expect from the President of the United States? He doesn’t even know where Armenia is, and frankly, Armenia means little to him. If the US had vital interests in the South Caucasus, it wouldn’t confuse Armenia with Albania, or Azerbaijan with Cambodia. It got what it needed, and the rest—do as you wish.

And he’s right, and in this case, I don’t oppose the US position. At one time, we cooperated very effectively with the United States. We simply need the courage to promote Armenia’s interests without worrying that Trump will give us a sideways glance if we say something wrong. He won’t look sideways—on the contrary, he’ll respect us more,” Kocharyan emphasized.
