We receive inquiries and interview requests from international media almost every week, because everyone is astonished by what’s happening in Armenia today, Narek Karapetyan, head of the Our Way movement coordinating council, told journalists outside the Anti-Corruption Court, referring to the international reaction to the case of Samvel Karapetyan.

“If we don’t stop this process, what happened today will happen again,” Karapetyan said.

He noted that the authorities had claimed they were only targeting the Catholicos personally. “Eight priests have already been arrested. They are fighting against the Armenian Apostolic Church,” he said, urging the public not to believe the government’s “fairy tales.”

According to him, there is evidence that such incidents occur just days after statements made by Azerbaijan’s spiritual leader. “These people are not targeting just our church’s spiritual pastor, but the most respected institution in Armenia—the force that unites the Armenian people,” Karapetyan added.
