On March 29, the residents of Artsakh will hold a large rally at Freedom Square. In addition to social issues, the fundamental rights of the people of Artsakh will also be addressed, especially the return to Artsakh, prisoners of war held in Baku, and other critical issues. A special council has been formed, which includes Artsakh NGOs, parliamentary forces and individuals.
Alpha News spoke about this topic with the head of the Artsakh Democratic Party faction of the Artsakh National Assembly, Davit Melkumyan.
“This is a public initiative. For the process of returning to Artsakh to take place, we must have a unified mindset and opinion. According to the information I have, after a month of discussions, all public organizations and activists in Artsakh came to the conclusion that, in the end, their voice should be heard in Armenia. This is an initiative for the sake of Artsakh, it is about preventing Artsakh residents from emigrating.
This initiative will raise very important issues, in particular, the right to return, social issues, since the proposals that the people of Artsakh receive do not correspond to this reality. This creates the impression of an artificial emigration of Artsakh’s population,” he said.
According to him, if the people of Artsakh emigrate, then there will be no one to claim a guaranteed right of return.
“Solutions should be provided that would be promising. If we do not prevent the emigration of Artsakh Armenians today, who will demand a guaranteed right to return tomorrow? I highly appreciate that this initiative is public and social, and in fact, all people should understand that they are obliged to fight for their rights,” said Davit Melkumyan.
