Iran MFA: Iran continues to closely monitor developments in the Caucasus

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said at his weekly press conference that Tehran is sensitive to the security of its common borders with its northern neighbors and stressed that the country continues to closely monitor developments in the Caucasus, Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

Kanaani discussed the developments in the Caucasus.

“We are in contact with the authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Armenian officials have expressed their concern about the possibility of new military clashes on the part of Azerbaijan. However, the Baku authorities have sent us a message, saying that they do not intend to carry out military attacks, and the latest troop deployment is a conventional military operation being carried out on the threshold of winter, because movement in mountainous areas is becoming complicated,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

He stressed that “Iran’s borders are safe, and the country continues to closely monitor developments in the Caucasus.”
