Peace in the South Caucasus is a strategic priority for Iran, President Masoud Pezeshkian said during a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan.
“Peace in the South Caucasus is a strategic priority for Iran, and we support the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Iran’s position has consistently been that borders must remain unchanged, as any change could cause geopolitical competition,” he said.
He said Iran wishes peace to its neighbors.
“We have always defended Armenia’s territorial integrity, that’s our policy, and we oppose any use of force in the region,” he added.
Pezeshkian also reiterated Tehran’s opposition to the involvement of non-regional powers in the South Caucasus, stressing that regional issues should be resolved by the countries within the region.
