Is president happy about bloodstained gasoline? – Tigran Kocharyan on Vahagn Khachaturyan’s remarks
Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, participated in a panel discussion titled “Defining Eurasia’s Economic Identity” alongside Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. During the discussion, Khachaturyan noted that people in Yerevan are buying Azerbaijani fuel, and this is the reality in which Armenians live.
Khachaturyan also addressed the peace process, stating, “I want to thank Mr. Aliyev and our Prime Minister for the political will that has been demonstrated. The goal has been one – peace.”
Commenting on President Vahagn Khachaturyan’s statements, Alpha News editor-in-chief Tigran Kocharyan said:
“It was a disgraceful scene. It seemed as though Mr. Khachaturyan could barely restrain himself from standing up every time he saw Aliyev. It looked like he was not facing the president of another country but rather his longtime patron Khachatur Sukiasyan. Such a servile attitude, as Khachaturyan showed toward Aliyev, was simply disgusting.
It is fine that Azerbaijani gasoline is being sold, but at what cost? At the cost of losing Artsakh? At the cost of 150,000 Artsakh Armenians being left homeless and stateless? At the cost of thousands of casualties in the Artsakh war, and now Artsakh no longer exists? Is Khachaturyan happy about that bloodstained gasoline?”
According to Kocharyan, a president who presents himself as the head of a sovereign country should not display such behavior toward the leader of another state.
“It felt as though Armenia’s Prime Minister was Ilham Aliyev, not Nikol Pashinyan. Our president would be better off taking selfies at funerals than attending such meetings,” Kocharyan concluded.
