It is impossible to ensure country’s security by turning it into transit area for everyone – Ararat Kostanyan

There isn’t a single country or people in the world that doesn’t strive for peace, said international relations expert and orientalist Ararat Kostanyan in an interview with Alpha News.
“At the same time, there’s a perception that if you don’t agree with the ‘peace map’ or the ‘crossroads of peace,’ you want war. This is absolutely not true. Every state—large or small—must prioritize its own security. Security can manifest itself in various ways: military, economic, and, in the modern world, also cultural and civilizational,” Kostanyan said.
According to him, it is first necessary to ensure the country’s security, and only then talk about the desire for peace.
“The pursuit of peace does not mean that security mechanisms should be taken lightly,” the expert emphasized.
Kostanyan also stated that it is impossible to ensure a country’s security by turning it into a transit area for everyone: “At international humanitarian forums or specialized UN platforms, such rhetoric may have some impact, but in these vitally important arenas for states, where the future of the world is being decided, it is naive to speak only of a ‘crossroads of peace’ without mentioning the threats in this region and Armenia’s role as a factor and a state.”
