Javakhk Armenians honor victims of Armenian Genocide

Javakhk Armenians honored the victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. On April 23, a traditional torchlight procession initiated by the Javakhk “Zori Zoryan” Youth Union was held in Akhaltsikhe. Thousands of Armenians participated in the procession, coming to the khachkar (cross-stone) commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide. A ceremony of commemoration of the innocent martyrs was also held.
On April 24, a memorial service marking the 110th anniversary of the 1915 Armenian Genocide was held in the courtyard of Akhalkalak’s Surb Khach Church. The residents of Akhalkalak laid flowers at the monument dedicated to the genocide victims and lit candles in honor of the holy martyrs. The service was conducted by Ter Narek Tigranian, priest of Surb Khach Church, and Reverend Vardapet Ter Nshan Amayakyan, Vicar of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Tsalka. Flowers were laid at the khachkar by MP Samvel Manukyan, Akhalkalaki Mayor Melkon Makaryan, and Chairman of the Sakrebulo Nairi Iritsyan.
