Speaking with Alpha News, Jonathan Spangenberg, Chair of the Central Council of Armenians in Germany, said that during the days of the blockade of Artsakh, the council met with representatives of the European Union to voice issues of concern.
“The ‘Europeans for Artsakh’ platform was created last year. When Artsakh was under complete blockade, representatives from various European countries had a meeting with the legislative bodies of the European Union. We voiced our concerns there. We held a big demonstration on October 1. We are in constant cooperation with the representatives of these 15 countries,” Spangenberg noted.
According to him, in the coming days, rallies in support of Artsakh will be held in different cities of Europe.
“On January 27-28, rallies will be held in different cities of Europe. There are no large private demonstrations planned in Germany yet, and as far as I know at the moment, services will be held in churches. We must voice our main concerns. We must talk about the release of Armenian prisoners held in Baku after the 2020 war, as well as about the military and political figures of Artsakh. We must continue to raise this issue with a united European voice, also at higher levels. We are also thinking about raising this issue among all MPs,” Jonathan Spangenberg said.
He said that their actions would not be of a protest nature.
“Small events will be held in different cities in which we will take part. Each European country has its own features, and all this will not have the nature of big demonstrations, but it is important to participate and raise our voice at the pan-European level. This is very important; work is already underway on the ‘Europeans for Artsakh’ platform. We must organize and make our voices louder,” Jonathan Spangenberg concluded.
