Jordan has selected Sareen Hairabedian’s documentary My Sweet Land to represent it in the Best International Feature Film category of the 97th Academy Awards, Deadline reports.

The film follows 11-year-old Vrej, who lives in a picturesque village in Artsakh and dreams of becoming a dentist. Vrej’s life takes a sudden turn when war erupts, forcing him to flee with his family. They return to their devastated homeland after the defeat in the war. Upon returning, he confronts the devastation, a harsh new reality, and prepares for future battles, trying to cope with the weight of his hopes and traumas.

My Sweet Land premiered at the Sheffield DocFest earlier this year ahead of playing a number of festivals, including the Amman International Film Festival in July, where it won the Jury Award for Best Feature Documentary and the FIPRESCI Award for Best Feature Length Arab Documentary.

The Yerevan premiere took place during the Golden Apricot Film Festival.

Sareen Hairabedian currently resides in the United States.
