Kaja Kallas’s statement is direct and blatant interference in Armenia’s internal affairs – Ishkhan Saghatelyan

Ishkhan Saghatelyan, representative of the ARF Supreme Body and MP from the “Armenia” faction, commented on the statement made by Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.

“Kaja Kallas’s statement is a direct and blatant interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Armenia, clearly pursuing political goals:

1. Under various pretexts, to prepare the ground for restricting, suppressing, or neutralizing the activities of opposition political forces during the pre-election period;
2. To influence the electoral will and preferences of the citizens of Armenia.

In fact, the EU representative declares an intention to interfere in Armenia’s internal political processes at the most sensitive stage, directly influencing the formation of power, disregarding the right of Armenian citizens to make their own choice. This is being done openly and without disguise.

We assess this as the beginning of an extremely dangerous process that could seriously undermine Armenia’s political system as a whole, regardless of political positions. Such statements give a green light to lawlessness, violence, and political persecution.

Therefore, we call on all opposition political forces in Armenia to clearly and publicly express their position regarding such statements and processes in order to prevent interference in our internal affairs, possible pressure, violence, and attempts to distort the will of the citizens.

The sole authority in shaping power in Armenia is the Armenian people, and any external interference is a direct blow to our sovereignty,” the MP’s statement reads.
