Rallies with the slogan “Free Artsakh” will be held in about 50 European cities on January 27-28, Karen Tadevosyan, President of Belgium’s Armenian Community Assembly, told Alpha News.

“One of our primary demands is protecting the rights of the people of Artsakh. All efforts are aimed at it. The second demand is the release of all prisoners, and once again we want to draw attention to the defense of Syunik. As you know, on October 1, we organized a large demonstration in a number of countries. Now the goal is to show serious consistency and not back down from our demands. For us, the issue of Artsakh is not closed,” Tadevosyan said.

He emphasized that the rallies will be held in three Belgian cities. A relatively small protest will be staged together with the Armenian church in Brussels.

“It was June when we launched the ‘Europeans for Artsakh’ platform. We were supposed to implement it in October, but the events of September happened. After that, on October 5, the European Parliament adopted a very important resolution. The whole problem is that all adopted resolutions must be implemented by all member states. We have to do a lot of work in this regard, although during the war, the Belgian Parliament adopted two very important resolutions. As you know, the decisions of the assemblies are not obligatory, and this causes difficulties for us.

On October 1, we said that if sanctions are not applied to Azerbaijan, it means they had agreements. We are still of the same opinion. For months, during meetings or in letters, we warned about the threat looming over Artsakh; they told us that we were exaggerating. Aliyev has violated so many international laws that one day he will be held accountable, and then we must intervene and act at the right time. We will be satisfied when the governments of the member countries implement everything that is mentioned in the resolution,” Tadevosyan concluded.
