Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, in a conversation with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, confirmed that Israel had rejected his proposals to vacate five occupied hills in southern Lebanon and replace its forces with international troops. Alpha News discussed this matter with the editor-in-chief of Aztag Daily, Shahan Kandaharian.

“Unfortunately, the ceasefire reached between the two sides is not being observed, and the main violator of the agreement is Israel. It is conducting intensive attacks on southern regions of Lebanon, continues to maintain its troops on Lebanese territory and control a number of regions. As we can see, the five occupied hills of Lebanon are of strategic importance to Syria.

Speaking of Hezbollah, it should be noted that it has no military presence in Lebanon. Instead, it has a very influential presence in Beirut, Baalbek, southern villages and suburbs,” he told Alpha News.

When asked what to expect in the near future, Kandaharian said:

“I will try to address this issue from a broader perspective. The recent US military actions against the Houthis in Yemen show a trend of completely neutralizing strongholds of Iranian proxies. This was done in Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, Syria, and now also against the Yemeni Houthis. It turns out that there is a process of general transformation of the strongholds of the military bases of Iranian proxies. All this stems from the interests of Israel and is backed by the US. I suppose all this shows the tendency to redraw the political map of the region.”
