Leonid Reshetnikov: Games of bringing a country from one security zone to another end badly
Speaking with Alpha News, retired Lieutenant General Leonid Reshetnikov commented on the statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that Armenia can no longer develop defense cooperation only with Russia.
According to the expert, everything the West does will be used against security in the South Caucasus and against Russia.
“The West simply will not cooperate. There is no such thing as a free lunch. The West has a definite and clear goal; we can see it from all the events of recent times, of recent decades. It is not only money that the West needs from Armenia. Armenia can give a little money. So, there is the most important task—foreign policy. The West will perform this task by providing Armenia with weapons that are not the latest—but still good, not bad weapons. Using this, it will promote Armenia as its base country in the Caucasus, along with Georgia,” Reshetnikov said.
According to the expert, such developments will lead to a sharp deterioration in relations with Russia and will question the security of the Caucasus region.
“Nothing good will come of this. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is planning to completely transfer Armenia under the NATO umbrella. Talks about how Armenia needs other weapons and that Russia doesn’t provide much or Russia provides Azerbaijan are the ruse. We have already gone through this with both the Baltic states and Ukraine. All this is being said in order to withdraw Armenia from the CSTO zone and transfer it under the NATO umbrella. Then he will carry out the tasks that Brussels will set,” Reshetnikov said.
“Armenia, led by Pashinyan, chose the path of Ukraine and the Baltic states, with all that this entails. The consequences will eventually manifest themselves. Such games of bringing a country from one security zone to another are very risky and end badly for those who are involved,” Reshetnikov concluded.
