London is closely following developments concerning the Armenian Church and hopes for a “fair resolution.”
International Development Minister Jenny Chapman made this statement in response to a question from Christopher Chessun, a member of the House of Lords and Anglican bishop. She noted that London expects the actions of the Armenian authorities to remain within constitutional and legal boundaries.
At the same time, the diplomat reminded of Britain’s commitment to “protecting rights” in relation to different countries around the world. She stressed that the Government of the United Kingdom remains firmly committed to defending the right to freedom of religion and belief worldwide. According to Chapman, ministers and officials regularly discuss a range of issues with their Armenian colleagues.
