Meeting between Aliyev and Zelensky was empty, says political scientist
Speaking with Alpha News, member of the “Another Ukraine” movement Vladimir Oleynik commented on the meeting of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Ukraine, Ilham Aliyev and Volodymyr Zelensky, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
According to the political scientist, the meeting between Aliyev and Zelensky was empty in content but quite dangerous in terms of European politics.
According to the expert, Russia will not react to Aliyev’s statement on Ukraine.
“Sometimes Russia is quite tolerant of such statements, first of all, because of actual relations. The actual relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are not bad. I don’t know whether such statements will be further interpreted into other projects, for example, NATO, but so far Azerbaijan is silent and does not say that it wants to become a member of NATO. Although their closest ally, Turkey, is a NATO member. Therefore, statements here are not as important for Russia as actions. Many statements in politics do not coincide with the actions of the leaders. Aliyev now feels strength and support. However, Pashinyan, unfortunately, does not have such support from France,” Oleynik said.
“Today the conflict is not between Ukraine and Russia, but between the United States and Russia. It is clear that neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan can act as a party in this conflict that would take upon itself any guarantees for the signing of a peace treaty,” Oleynik concluded.
