MEP: Representatives of the EU Council and the European Commission were not present at the debate on the Artsakh situation

“As you saw and as you heard, many MEPs are in favor of sanctions towards the Aliyev regime and the end of this horrible deal concerning Azerbaijan’s gas,” MEP Emmanuel Maurel said in an interview with Alpha News following the debate on the resolution “The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh after Azerbaijan’ aggression and the continuing threats against Armenia” in the European Parliament.

According to him, the problem is what kind of response the European Commission and the EU Council will give to this. “There is neither Mrs. von der Leyen nor Mr. Borrell at the debate today, and we are waiting for answers. At the moment, they are keeping silence. Don’t forget that a few months ago Mrs. von der Leyen said that Aliyev was a ‘strong partner’. That’s what we denounce during this debate. We are waiting for strong answers and strong sanctions,” he said.

It should be noted that the vote on the resolution will be held in the European Parliament on October 5.
