Mike Sarian: Those who question the memory of the genocide victims are not Armenians
Speaking with Alpha News, public figure, philanthropist and doctor Mike Sarian said that neither the current government of Armenia nor any of the pro-government MPs have the right to question the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian genocide.
“No one can come 100 or more years later and question the fact that those people died. It is sad to hear this, but I think we, the Armenians, are to blame for it all. The Armenian people should not have allowed these people to rule the country and, moreover, elected them twice. The only guilt of the 1.5 million victims was that they were Armenians. Today, neither the current government nor any of the MPs have the right to question the memory of the innocent victims,” Sarian said.
According to him, the Turkish people recognize the Armenian genocide, but the country’s authorities do not recognize this crime because they realize that they will be held accountable.
“I have Turkish colleagues with whom I cooperate, and they admit that there was genocide. People in Turkey also recognize this fact, but their authorities do not want to admit it because they know that they will have to answer for all this. My family and other relatives moved to Lebanon, Syria, or elsewhere to escape the Armenian genocide. Thousands of Armenians were driven to Der Dzor and killed. To this day, human bones are found there. Knowing and seeing all this, I cannot accept that anyone could question the memory of these victims. Such people are not Armenians for me,” Sarian concluded.
