Mirzoyan urges Russian FM not to interfere in Armenia’s internal affairs

At a joint press conference with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy — Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan called on Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to refrain from interfering in Armenia’s internal affairs.

“Mr. Lavrov’s information is incomplete and incorrect. If I’m not mistaken, he used the expression ‘struggle of authorities against the church’.” Lavrov’s information does not correspond to reality, there is no struggle of authorities against a church in Armenia. What he seems to be referring to is the involvement of certain members of the clergy in political activities,” Mirzoyan said, adding that according to law enforcers’ information, it is about ”participation in the preparation or initiation of an illegal coup d’état.”

“This is a legal process and an internal Armenian matter. Lavrov should not interfere in Armenia’s internal affairs,“ Mirzoyan said, making the same appeal to Russian MPs and media and advising them to “respect the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia and refrain from further interference.”
