Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist and expert on post-Soviet countries Aslan Rubaev commented on the statement by the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister that Russia is ready to contribute to the normalization between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Mikhail Galuzin’s statement once again confirms that, despite all the emerging contradictions, Moscow still wants and strives to de-escalate any tense moments that are happening today in the South Caucasus region, because, as is known, this region holds strategic importance for Russia. Any armed conflicts or tensions in relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan can negatively affect not only Armenia and Azerbaijan, but also the broader region—including Russia, Iran, and Turkey,” Rubaev said.

According to the expert, Russia is the only country in the South Caucasus that is sincerely interested in resolving the conflict between Yerevan and Baku.

“Russia, which has very serious geopolitical influence, always seeks to turn any tension into a normal space for discussion, so here we see certain proposals for mediation and even assistance in resolving the conflict, which could include various formats. We are ready to be a platform for negotiations, and we are also ready to develop peace agreements and guarantees for their implementation,” Rubaev emphasized.
