Jordan, under Azerbaijan’s pressure, has withdrawn My Sweet Land, a documentary by New York-based Armenian-Jordanian filmmaker Sareen Hairabedian, as its entry at the Academy Awards.

The movie follows 11-year-old Vrej from the village of Tsaghkashen in Martakert. The boy’s parents are one of the 105 couples of the “Big Wedding” organized in Shushi in 2008.

Jordanian filmmaker Sareen Hairabedian traveled to Artsakh in 2018 to meet those born after that wedding and met Vrej. Thereafter, every year in August, Sareen visited Artsakh on Vrej’s birthday.

Vrej dreamed of becoming a dentist and opening his own clinic in the village. But in 2020, the 44-day war began, and his family, like the other 120 thousand Armenians, became refugees and fled to Yerevan.

These days the documentary is being screened in Los Angeles theaters.
