Nathalie Loiseau: The EU’s passivity gave Azerbaijan the green light

Our weakness and passivity have made us complicit in this situation, French MP Nathalie Loiseau said at the session of the EU Committee on Foreign Affairs.

She called mediation efforts of the conflict resolution a “complete failure”.

“We never called the aggressor by its name… Azerbaijan does not want peace. It wants the complete subjugation and humiliation of the Armenian people,” Loiseau said, noting that Azerbaijan achieved military supremacy with the help of Turkiye and Israel, while the EU ignored all that.

As for the attack unleashed by Azerbaijan and the efforts to displace the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, Loiseau called it nothing but ethnic cleansing.

“The EU was unable to prevent the attack, the implementation of which was predictable. Our weakness and passivity have made us complicit in all this. European diplomacy has consistently ignored warning signs,” she noted, adding that the EU’s passivity gave Azerbaijan the green light.

According to Loiseau, the EU shows by its actions that it “cannot be trusted”.
