The Swiss Federal Council, with 96 votes in favor, 80 against and 16 abstentions, adopted a resolution calling for an international peace conference to discuss “the safe and collective return of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh”, said Kristine Vardanyan, a member of the Hayastan parliamentary faction.

“At that time, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis literally said, ‘Neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan wants this conference.’ Armenian media reported that the initiative was rejected allegedly due to the Swiss government’s unwillingness.

Meanwhile, the minister justified the refusal to hold the conference not by the position of Switzerland but by the unwillingness on the part of the officials of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

In fact, by refusing to discuss issues related to the protection of the rights of Artsakh Armenians in negotiations with Azerbaijan, the current authorities consistently prevent international partners from doing so as well,” the MP said.
