Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Vasily Koltashov commented on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Russia.

“One gets the impression that Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Russia failed to achieve its goal, just as his communication with the Russian president clearly did not succeed. Formally, everything is fine: both sides stated that dialogue was ongoing and that negotiations were taking place. Pashinyan boasted that Americans were controlling and building some kind of road there. I say this deliberately, with irony—the United States has directly intervened in regional affairs, which can’t help but irritate Russia. And he told Putin about this. Putin, after all, said that trade routes needed to be restored, that we needed to talk about this. I don’t think the process will advance: relations won’t worsen, but they’re unlikely to improve,” Koltashov said.

According to the expert, Pashinyan is a person who cannot be trusted.

“Pashinyan is not someone who can deceive Russia, and now is not the time to deceive Russia. It is just that the Minsk agreements were, in all likelihood, the last serious deception the West and its people managed to impose on the Russian leadership. That means there is no way to confuse Russia now, so Pashinyan’s visit will remain a mere formality. Pashinyan is a man from the other camp; he is someone who cannot be trusted. Pashinyan is someone with whom, if you reach an agreement, it will be a rotten one. Meanwhile, the negotiation process can continue—and will continue for a long time—while, by and large, remaining the same,” Koltashov concluded.
